here today you said this:
As the year finally draws to a close, it is time to reflect on the memorable, the painful, the delightful and sometimes, sad experiences. But it is not just enough to remember these events but more importantly, we must learn from them in order to develop and grow.
Even as you all received your own exam results on Monday and cried with joy(or perhaps sobbed in sadness), it is important to always bear in mind that academic results is just but one part of LIFE. I know this must sound ironic coming from someone whom you all perceive to be spending his whole life studying but i have some words of wisdom to share. What is more important and perhaps the most important in LIFE is to find meaning in it, otherwise, you would just be an empty shell wandering aimlessly from day to day, year to year, until you move on.
And as we continue to reflect on the past year’s events, we would be moving a step closer to finding that meaning in LIFE. You would know it when you have finally found that MEANING when you finally start living your day as if it is your last day on Earth.
But right now, as you all continue to search for your meaning in LIFE, i can assure you that you won’t find it this year nor the next. Right now, you all should be studying hard and of course smartly for your ‘A’s, for landing YOUR dream job and living your future life as you want it would be a huge leap towards your goal in LIFE.
I know the going might seem tough at times when the obstacles appear insurmountable but let me share this quote from Martin Luther King, ” The ultimate measure of a man is not when he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but at times of challenges and controversy”. The ‘A’ levels is not merely a test of your own intellectual capability but also of your mental strength and will to press on even in the most trying of times.
